Our Story

The inspiration behind the name - Dordéan - is Mackenzie Joy, daughter of owners Shawn and Renena Joy. "Dordéan" is Irish for hummingbird, a nod to the family's Irish Newfoundland roots. Hummingbirds are mighty, little birds, known for their cheerful disposition and zest for life. They symbolize beauty, playfulness, grace and resilience. Much like hummingbirds, Mackenzie is small but mighty; a powerhouse in her own right. She is one of the happiest, kindest and most generous people you will ever meet. Despite her many challenges, she faces each day with strength, determination, persistence and resilience. As the saying goes "Good things come in small packages," Hummingbirds are tiny birds that pack a punch well beyond their size, serving as a reminder that one person can make a big impact on the lives of others and their community.

Our Purpose

We recognize that, sometimes, opportunities are what you create. In conjunction with hosting lovely guests from all over in our tiny house suites, our goal is to also provide vocational training and other opportunities for adults with disabilities in a safe, community-based setting.  Through this, individuals with communication, learning and social challenges will be able to develop employment and other important skills while increasing their self-confidence and independence all while making meaningful contributions to the community.

Booking at Dordéan Suites allows guests to be part of something that is bigger than just themselves, it’s about supporting a broader community and truly making a positive difference in someone’s life.  These tiny homes are full of big dreams and big hearts.
